The Rambler Family Tree
There are three main branches to the Rambler Family Tree. These are Nash, Hudson and Willys. Red, White, Blue. We'll make the other companies yellow.
Each has predecessors which gave them birth through opportunity. While Hudson remained relatively stable through its history, both Nash and Willys engaged in large mergers to further their fortunes.
The Family Tree of American Motors is complex, yet surprisingly confusing. There was many a merger and a buyout among the three principle branches.
So given the basic 3-branch composition of AMC, a chart would look something like this:

1954 Hudson and Nash create AMC
1955 Kaiser and Willys merge
1970 AMC buys out Kaiser Jeep to form
AMC Jeep Corporation
1979? Renault buys into AMC
1982? Renaut gains controlling interest in AMC
1987 Chrysler buys out AMC in hostile bid.
